The Museum of Mankind or to give it its official title, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), is an anthropology museum located in Bhopal dedicated to presenting an integrated story of the evolution of man and culture with special reference to India.
It spreads over an area of 200 acres overlooking Bhopal’s Upper Lake. IGRMS has a few permanent exhibitions, broadly categorised as open exhibitions, indoor galleries and periodical or temporary exhibitions. It is the largest museum of its type in India.
The indoor Museum of Mankind features exhibits human evolution, culture and India’s Tribal people.
The outdoor exhibitions in the grounds of the museum, built with active involvement of traditional artisans and experts drawn from different community groups all over India include faithful reconstructions of tribal habitats, a coastal village, a desert village, a Himalayan village, mythological trail, and traditional technology park.
